with Barry Keoghan, Christopher Abbott
Michael (Christopher Abbott), the last son of a farming family, lives an isolated existence with his ailing, cantankerous father Ray (Colm Meany). Burdened by a terrible secret from his past, Michael has isolated himself from the world and dedicates himself to his prized flock. When the ongoing conflict with rival farmer Gary (Paul Ready) and his wayward and unpredictable son Jack (Barry Keoghan) stirs old tensions and grievances, it triggers a chain of events that take increasingly violent and devastating turns, leaving both families permanently altered.
"A brutally violent directorial debut, Christopher Andrews’ rural Irish drama “Bring Them Down” veers between pitch-black humor and pervading melancholy." - Siddhant Aklakha, Variety
"Andrews’s film, which he both wrote and directed, operates with a kind of ruthless empathy. "Bring Them Down" is shaped like a crime thriller, yet has the sharp ache of tragedy." - Clarisse Loughrey, Independent (UK edition)
"The intertwined – and intermarried – fates feel like a Gaelic version of a Kurosawa film. The feeling is enhanced by the cut-up storytelling (shades of "Rashomon"), and a sparse, dread-inducing skin-drum score (by Northern Irish composer Hannah Peel) that eschews the Irish bodhrán drum in favour of percussive sounds from farther afield, particularly Southeast Asia." - David Hughes, Time Out
