About us

Halifax's only independent cinema

Carbon Arc is an independent, art house cinema in downtown Halifax.

We show great films every Friday and Saturday (usually around 6:30pm) during our winter/spring (February - April) and fall (October - November) seasons. Lately the winter/spring season has extended through the summer to mid-August and the fall season into December. We also occasionally offer special screenings outside of this schedule. Our long term plan is to grow into a cinematheque, offering nightly film screenings.

We are mostly volunteer run, with a cast of characters including our Board of Directors, a projectionist, the cinema director, a crack programming team, and great volunteers who help run each screening.

Our Programming Committee is passionate about screening a variety of foreign, Canadian, and local selections that will inspire, spread beauty, and expand Halifax’s cinema to include regular access to independent and limited release films. Our current focus is on new releases, though we do occasionally partner to screen classics or special screenings.
